ALTENEW ANNIVERSARY 2022 CRAFTER-CLASS

NEW TECHNIQUES AND IDEAS!

I just participated in the four day Anniversary Crafter 2022 Class, Four awesome card making lessons with great techniques and ideas. The card making bundle of supplies included- Midsummer Bouquet Outline Stamp set, Morning Flowers Layering Stamp set and a 6″ x6″ Scalloped Frame Geometric 3D Emboss8ng Folder. There was a Floral Spring layering stencil in the class bundle that I did not use for a card this time but a welcome addition to my stencil collection.

Each class covered a different technique which was great. Here are my completed cards!

Midsummer Bouquet Outline Stamp set

The technique for this card was coloring, blending and layering using Altenew alcohol markers. I stamped the flower using permanent black ink on white card stock. This was double bloom image with leaves. I had some extra leaves from another stamped image and used a darker green marker for contrast. I fussy cut the image and added it to white card stock trimmed for an A2 card. I tucked the extra leaves behind the image. I stamped a matching sentiment. I used silver glitter washi tape- I doubled the tape to create a wider banner and die cut both the sentiment and and glitter banner. That is a quick tip to create a wider strip of tape.

Ink blending strip

This ink blending technique created a colorful masked stripe. I used wide Post It paper tape to mask off the section that I ink blended using Altenew blue ink cubes going from darkest to lightest. I stamped two leaf sprigs from the Morning Flowes layering stamp set with bright green ink. I stamped the rose from the same stamp set as the first card and fussy cut the rose. I stamped a word tag and tucked it behind the fussy cut the rose and layered it with foam tape. This was a great technique!

Embossing Scalloped Frame

The focal point of this card is the Altenew Scalloped Frame Geometric 3D Embossing Folder. I used a piece of watercolor paper, sprayed a light mist of water before embossing. That was a helpful suggestion from the class. While I was waiting for the paper to dry, I stamped the rose on watercolor paper and painted it using Altenew ink cubes in shades of purple. I used the same ink colors to paint the embossed scalloped frame. I splattered on the piece including the space in the middle. I added a stamp sentiment banner, I added this inked piece to an A2 white card base, then added the rose with foam tape and tucked the tag behind the flower. I added an extra leaf for a trio of leaves. I kept the color scheme monocromatic for the card theme. The embossed scalloped paper was the showcase piece of the card!

A happy congratulations and celebration card for the Altenew party event that I created for the special celebration. I stamped the cupcake image using Altenew All Things Sweet Layering Stamps and coordinating Die set. The sentiment tag was stamped using Altenew’s Sentiment Strips 3 stamp set. The background was created using Altenew Dotted Swiss debossing plate and lavendar solid cardstock. I created the frame using two rounded rectangle dies from Altenew and gold foil card stock. For added dimension I layered two more die cut cupcakes from white card stock, and also for the word tag. GO GREEN FOR MARCH CARDS!

PAPER PIECING STRIPS TECHNIQUE

Hello to the month of March! And March cards that I have created in months past is usually connected to St. Patrick’s Day. Believe it or not, I don’t have lots of stamps or card making supplies to use for St. Patrick’s Day celebration. So it was time to get creative with the supplies and paper that I have in my collection,

I was inspired by watching a great video by Jennifer Mcguire that was about using paper scraps to create a background and creatvie paper piecing. So I thought I would give it a try. I dove into my patterned/printed green scrapbook paper pieces that I had in my vast collection.

Next was to cut the paper into 1/2″ strips and glue to a white card base mixing up the printed paper. Once that was done, I cut the new background paper into 3 1/2″ square. Then I cut that piece corner to corner diagonally to create four right angle triangles. See photo for this step.

Cut into 4 triangles

Then I created the mix and match patterns for each four square piece for the card front. I cut a piece of 3 1/2″ white card stock to adhere/glue the four triangles. I die a cut a small square to cover the middle where all of the pieces met and covered any issues. I also die cut a Hi using gold glitter paper for the middle of the green square. There are so many different ways to use the triangles to create different layouts.

The card base is a 4″ square using white card stock and fits in an A2 envelope. Lots of different paper strip patterns and combinations. I used lots of scraps of patterned paper that had I had in my collection. Hooray! Give this technique a try. Now I am trying solid paper to create different combinations and patterns. Have fun and happy card making.

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE ISLANDS IN SPACE BLOG HOP

Altenew is featuring the new release of the Whimsical Flower Bunch coloring sheet set packet. This packet has 24 coloring pages of 6″ x6″ 80 lb printed on white card stock . There are twelve designs printed either with a black outline or gray outline. Lots of opportunities to create cards, framed pictures or other ideas you might have. Happy coloring!

WHIMSICAL FLOWER BUNCH COLORED CARDS

I created six A2 cards using six different coloring sheets using the black outline images. I used Altenew Artist Markers dual tip alcohol marker sets – Island Garden set and Space Garden set to color, shade and blend the whimisical flower images. There are twelve markers in each set. Each marker is numbered and has a brush marker tip and a a fine tip for coloring and shading. Here are the cards and printed pages from the packet.

Each card is different depending on the printed image. For a few I trimmed the image to use on the top, bottom or the sides and if I used the printed sentiment as the focal point of the the card. I used Altenew alcohol markers to color the die cut Altenew Hello to coordinate with the colored flowers. I also colored white card stock using the markers for the Altenew Thank You tag and for the Altenew Hello tag stamped with black ink and die cut or trimmed.

ALTENEW FABULOUS FLORA BLOG HOP

ALTENEW FABULOUS FLORA BLOG HOP AND GIVE AWAY

This newest Altenew release set includes an awesome variety that includes 3 D embossing folders, layering stencils and coordinating dies. Everything in the set is awesome and different and could not wait to start planning and creating cards. Here are the cards I created using the materials from this set. There are more choices to select from and these are the ones I selected to work with. Your turn to be inspired!

ALTENEW FABULOUS FLORA CARD SAMPLES

Blobby Roses layering die and coordinatng dies
Altenew Meadow layerung stencil
Altenew 3D Embossing Folder
Altenew 3D Curving Leaves embossing folder

DETAILS ON HOW I CREATED EACH CARD

For the first card, I used the Altenew Blobby Rose layering stencil to ink each of the layers of the roses and leaves using Altenew ink cubes in shades of pink and green. I stenciled the roses/leaves on two half sheets of white card stock. This second stenciled paper was needed to die cut enough flowers- single and double and extra leaves. The finished card had two double roses, two single roses, and extra leaves. I used Altenew’s Dotted Swiss debossing plate on white card stock and lightly blended and inked Altenew light pink background. The stamped sentiment tags were from the Altenew Craft-Your-Life project kit Feathered Lilies. I tucked the tags behind the flowers. Change the colors and you have a different look. The layered stencil is awesome, too.

For the second card, I used Altenew’s 6 x 6 five layering stencil Meadow Burst on a half sheet of white card stock as this was a large stencil. I used Altenew mini ink cubes- shades of green and dark blue as the accent color. I also used the same ink colors to create two accent narrow banners for the stamped word banner. I trimmed and die cut the stenciled piece for an A2 card and added the three mini banners. Change up the ink colors and you have a totally different card.

For the third card, I used the Altenew’s 3D Gems embossing folder and heavy weight watercolor paper. This type of embossing folder creates a deep impression and heavy weight paper works well. First, I inked my glass work mat using Altenew dark blue ink cube and sprayed it with water and dragged the paper through the ink puddle. I continued to add ink to cover the quarter sheet of paper. I dried the paper using a heat tool and set it aside. I die cut the Hello from glossy black paper for the top layer and cut another from regular black paper for added dimension and glued them together, I stamped a mini word banner and trimmed it. I used Altenew’s silver glitter washi tape as an accent. I trimmed the embossed and inked paper so there was a white edge for the card front. The Hello word die and sentiment were from Altenew’s Hello and word set.

And for card number four, I used heavy weight white card stock to use with this new Altenew 3D Curving Leaves embossing folder. This time I masked off the edges of the quarter sheet of card stock to create a rectangle in the middle of the paper. I used an Altenew green ink cube and inked the rectangle space. The next step I embossed the piece and then trimmed it to fit on the card front. I die cut the Hello again this time using gold glitter paper and trimmed the die to fit on the front of the inked space. and I also die cut anothrer hello and layered it behind the gold glitter piece for added dimension. Creating the accent colored space show cases the embossed paper both inked and left white. Easy option to try.

ALTENEW PAINT A FLOWER CAMELLIA WATERHOUSE BLOG HOP RELEASE

Hello and welcome to the newest Altenew Paint A Flower Camellia Waterhouse outline flower stamp set. This large new Altenew outline flower stamp is perfect for coloring using a variety of mediums, painting or creating a colorful background. Here are the cards I designed for this release.

Paint-A-Flower: Camellia Waterhouse product image and link to the shop: https://altenew.com/products/paint-a-flower-camellia-waterhouse-outline-stamp-set

  • Paint-A-Flower Monthly Subscription Plan link https://altenew.com/products/paint-a-flower-monthly-subscription
    • This is a monthly subscription plan for our Paint-A-Flower. When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in our monthly Paint-A-Flower releases and will receive a set each month – at a specially discounted price! ($15.99 →$12.99)

For the first card, I stamped the Camellia Waterhouse stamp on white card stock. I colored the flowers and leaves using Altenew alcohol markers to color and shade with. I kept adding slightly darker inks to create shadows for the petals and leaves tucked under the flowers, When that was completed I fussy cut the colored image. This is an A2 card with the left fold. I used Altenew’s Swiss Dot debossing plate for the piece of white cardstock for the card front, I used a rounded corner die from My Favorite Things to create the final piece. I trimmed the leaves as the flower image was large. I stamped the Altenew coordinating sentiment-Sent With Love on a small word tag and die cut the diamond shape using the Altenew Fine Frames Diamond die nesting set from gold metallic paper. I use this set often. When it was all assembled I added some clear Nuvo drops to create dew drops on the petals and leaves. The flower stamp creates an awesome statement.

For the second card, I used a blue alcohol marker to scribble ink onto a non-porous surface- like a piece of plastic or glass work mat. I mixed in using a palette knife, some 91% alcohol to dilute the ink. I used a quarter sheet of white card stock and put the paper on top of the inky puddle. I kept tapping the paper into the inky puddle to pick up more color to cover the piece of card stock. I wiped the surface clean with a paper towel and set the paper aside to dry. I stamped the sentiment strip and die cut a banner and also a larger banner using Altenew silver glitter washi tape. Put the piece of washi tape on a piece of white card stock, then cut it into the banner shape using either a die or scissor. The inked paper was ready for stamping using permanent black ink and trimmed to fit the card front. I added the layered sentiment strip and a few stick on sequins for visual interest. Super easy- change up the color and you have a whole different look. Enjoy!

MY ALTENEW CALLA LILY CARD

I stamped the Calla Lily flower stem onto white mixed media paper. This paper is a little heavier and is great for watercoloring. I used Altenew mini ink cubes to watercolor the leaves and flowers. I die cut the flower stem three more times from white card stock and layered the pieces together. This easy step adds dimension and visual interest. For the white background paper, I added texture using the Altenew Dotted Swiss debossing plate. I used the Altenew Fine Frames nesting diamond shaped dies to die cut piece of the debossed white paper and another piece from gold metallic paper for behind the stacked diamond die cuts. I stamped the Hello using black ink on white card stock paper and fussy cut a mini diamond shape for the Hello sentiment to create the diamon tag. I used a A2 white card stock for the layered debossed card front. A smple and elegant card. Change up the colors for the painted flower, background paper and you create a different look. Give it a try!

Altenew Craft Your Life Project Kit: Feathered Lilies Release Blog Hop and Giveaways

Craft Your Life Project Kit: Feathered Lilies

Floral beauty and messages of love all in one! The stamp set features a beautiful bouquet of lilies, elaborate leaves, and baroque elements. The minimalist style is a colorist’s dream, as it provides plenty of open space to add coloring and shading. Not a coloring enthusiast? Our coordinating coloring stencils make adding color sweet and simple. Finally, the set is maximized this stamp set with tons of sentiments so you can stay in touch with your loved ones.

FEATHERED LILIES STAMPED, DIE CUTS AND EMBOSSED CARDS

This set from the Altenew Craft Your Life set is all about the Feathered Lilies flowers. What a versatile set. For the first card, I used the embossing folder using mixed media paper. I selected this paper as it was a bit heavier in weight and would work better with the impression from the folder. I water colored the image using Altenew ink cubes- orange, blue, green and brown for the center of the flowers. I added a wash of blue to create the background. I inked a small piece of the same paper, stamped a coordinating sentiment and die cut to create the tag. This is a top folding A2 card. I attached the embossed and painted panel to the card front , added a bundle of gold thread behind the sentiment piece and adhered it to the right hand corner of the card. I love the way it came out!

For the second card, I stamped the the complete floral stem on to heavy weight white card stock. Again, I used Altenew ink cubes- orange, green, blue and light brown to paint and shade the image. I die cut the image to use for the A2 top folding card front. I used the Altenew Dotted Swiss debossing plate to create the background for another piece of white card stock. I did a light blending using a light shade of Altenew blue ink cube to shade the background. This was trimmed for the card front. Again I lightly inked the paper for a sentiment tag using Altenew light blue ink and stamped the Thank You from the set. I trimmed some of the leaves and I added one of the pieces to the back of one of the flowers. I really like how this stamped image filled up the entire card front. What a beautiful and elegent card!

For the last card, it was also an A2 card with a typical card layout. Again, I stamped the image and this time the colors were brigher and bolder. I painted and shaded the image using Altenew ink cubes- pink, green and blue and brown for the flower center. Then I used the coordinating die for the flower and trimmed it to fit the card front. I also inked the background paper using Altenew light blue ink for the background and for the word tag. I stamped the Hello from the set and tucked it under the flower stem. Another elegent card!
